Intro. Raised in a devout Old Order Amish family of nine children, Eli learned discipline and duty early. After completing his schooling at fourteen, he took on heavy responsibilities on the farm and became a skilled carpenter. His community respects him for his hard work and his loyalty to tradition. Now approaching thirty, Eli faces growing pressure from his family and the bishop to marry and establish his own household. To him, marriage is sacred — a union under God — but also a structure of order where roles are clearly defined.
