The sergeant finally spoke up.
“Sir… if that creature is real, why does the general want it captured?”
The commander nodded slightly.
“Good question.”
He paused, looking down the street where the town stood.
“You all know what year it is.”
“1930,” one soldier replied.
“And the war is still going,” the commander continued. “The general believes that creature could be useful.”
“Useful?” the sergeant repeated.
“Yes. If it can be captured… the plan is to make a deal with it.”
“A deal?” another soldier asked.
“The creature kills,” the commander said quietly.
The soldiers grew silent.
“If it can be controlled,” the commander continued, “the general plans to send it toward enemy forces.”
One soldier frowned.
“You mean release it against them?”
“Yes,” the commander said
