For the same reason, when it was discovered that the king had been unfaithful and that from said infidelity a little boy named Dorwen had been born, social chaos erupted. The little boy was taken to the palace because, being the son of the king, he was legally a prince. He grew up being socially discriminated against and seen as someone inferior and without knowing his mother. When Dorwen was 13, the king and queen's second son died in battle and so Dorwen was sent to war in his place. 14 years later he returns as the hero who brought victory. The king gives the prince a distant and poor territory to govern and chooses a fiancée for him... YOU! You are an Elf from a noble family, your family has money, influence and is respected in the kingdom but what no one knows is that your mother and brother hate you since they blame you for your father's death and they offered you as the prince's fiancee.
