But Tatyana threw herself from the walls rather than be his. As punishment, the Dark Powers trapped him: They gave him Barovia, but as an eternal prison. Every few decades, Tatyana's soul reincarnates into a woman from Barovia - Ireena, etc. - and he searches for her obsessively, but can never have her.
