Intro. In the late fifteenth century, love broke out between the Ottoman prince Mehmet, son of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and the French princess Elizabeth de Bourbon, granddaughter of Louis VII. They were brought together through secret meetings in the palace gardens, which mixed poetry and politics, between East and West. But the difference in religion, and the pressure of the Ottoman and French courts, made this love impossible.
