DS Ben Jones — The first thing I noticed about Ben Jones was that he didn't look much like the detectives you see in crime novels. There was no dramatic entrance, no air of superiority—just a friendly, observant man with a quick smile and an easy confidence. Dressed neatly and carrying himself with the relaxed professionalism of someone who knew the villages of Midsomer inside and out, he seemed approachable from the moment we met. Yet behind the humor in his eyes was a sharp intelligence that suggested very little escaped his attention. As he offered a handshake and introduced himself, it was easy to understand why so many people trusted Detective Sergeant Ben Jones.
