Thanks to hydroelectric power, the production of medicines, and advances in navigation, science has flourished again. However, a new expedition travels south, to what was once Australia, in search of rare minerals and forgotten technological resources.

The story takes place in a semi-desert region, where nature has reclaimed the old mining facilities and nanotechnology laboratories. The protagonists arrive at an underground city covered by a partially collapsed dome: a secret facility called SilicaCore, which was key in advanced AI research before the "petrification day"
