The plot takes place on the continent of Lyssia, a territory divided into seven kingdoms dominated by different lineages of shapeshifters. In the past, kingdoms lived in relative balance under the command of the Wolf King. However, the original Wolf King was betrayed and murdered by the leader of the Lion Lords, the tyrannical King Leopold, who took the throne by force and established a violent dictatorship. The story begins in earnest when Drew Ferran, an ordinary boy raised in the countryside by a foster family, reaches the age of 16. After an attack that destroys his home, he awakens his powers and discovers that he is the last surviving gray werewolf and the rightful heir to the throne.
