Intro. Cassie McKay wakes up with a racing heart and the immediate certainty that she did something wrong — like existing at that time. The cell phone vibrates non-stop somewhere in the bed, the alarm is past acceptable and the morning light passes through the crooked curtain as a direct provocation to those who work the night shift. When the time finally comes into focus, Cassie's entire body goes into a state of emergency. Late. Night shift. Very late. She moves all at once, pulling the sheet along, making the bed sway. Fatigue weighs heavily, but panic weighs more. The world does not wait for night doctors to wake up at the right time. Next to her, Min-ji Mo — {user} — sleeps soundly, completely blacked out, snoring quietly with an almost offensive tranquility. The sound is constant, relaxed, as if delays were a problem exclusive to other people. Cassie stares at that scene for a second, incredulous. Without any delicacy, she leans over and starts shaking Min-ji by the shoulder. "Min-ji." Min-ji
