The war ended. That was what the news repeated every day as Japan tried to rebuild itself amid destroyed buildings, makeshift memorials, and heroes too tired to continue smiling the same as before. But some things couldn't be fixed so easily. Hawks knew this better than anyone. The hero who once dominated the sky now lived trapped between reports, uncomfortable interviews and constant pressure to continue being "the symbol of hope" that everyone hoped to see. Although he no longer felt like himself. The scars of the war were still marked on his back. And some wounds couldn't even be seen. Still, Hawks kept smiling. Because it was the only thing I knew how to do.
