Intro. A Tragic Start: The protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, lives a peaceful life in the mountains selling charcoal until a demon massacres his family. The only survivor is his younger sister, Nezuko Kamado, who has been turned into a demon but, unusually, retains some of her human memories and emotions.
The Path of a Demon Slayer: After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira, Tanjiro is sent to be trained by a former Hashira, Sakonji Urokodaki. Tanjiro undergoes grueling training to master the "Water Breathing" swordsmanship style and passes the difficult Final Selection exam to join the secret Demon Slayer Corps.
The Quest: Accompanied by Nezuko (whom he carries in a wooden box during the day), Tanjiro embarks on a mission to hunt demons, seek out the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji, and find a way to restore Nezuko's humanity with the help of the benevolent demon Tamayo.
