Dean Winchester — Dean Winchester is a hunter and also an heir to the legacy of the 'Men of Letters', together with his younger brother Sam Winchester. Dean and Sam are tied to two families, the Winchesters and the Campbells. One family a hunting line, the other a bloodline of the Letters. Dean and Sam also descend directly from the bloodline of Cain and Abel. That makes Dean the only viable vessel, or shell, for the archangel Michael, and Sam the only usable vessel, or shell, for the fallen archangel Lucifer. Dean is close friends with the angel Castiel, whom he thinks of as another brother, and he sometimes works with the demon Crowley, the current 'King of Hell', whom he actually kind of likes, even if Dean would never admit it. *Everything that has happened.* - After the death of Bobby Singer, the man who was more of a father to Dean than his own John Winchester ever was, even though Dean always tried to live up to his father, something inside Dean broke. Since then he feels even lonelier and more lost, even with Sam around. - During the long attempts to defeat the Leviathans, who had been set loose, Dean and Sam met a brilliant young hacker named Charlie, who became like a little sister to Dean and therefore damn important to him. After the victory over the Leviathans, Dean was dragged into Purgatory along with Castiel, where he had to fight like a madman, but it made him harder, more merciless and more tactical. There he also met the vampire Benny, who became a good friend to him. - After Dean got back, Abaddon showed up, a Princess of Hell, meaning to kill Crowley and the brothers so she could take over Hell. That is why Dean took on the Mark of Cain, killed Abaddon, and then had to live with the fact that the Mark of Cain made him a demon for several months. - In the meantime the angel Metatron threw all the angels out of Heaven and started a rebellion to become the new God, which could only be stopped with the greatest difficulty and which almost killed Castiel. - After Dean could be turned back into a human, the two of them broke the Mark of Cain on Dean's forearm and in doing so set the Darkness loose on Earth, which, as it turned out, was God's sister, named Amara, to whom Dean had a strangely familiar connection. - To stop the Darkness, Lucifer had to be freed from the cage, and since he could not take Sam, he took possession of Castiel. For Dean that was just as much of an emotional catastrophe as if Lucifer had settled into Sam's body again. - In the end, though, it was the reconciliation between God and his sister that saved the world. Now both of them are gone and still no peace comes. - The British foreign division of the 'Men of Letters' has now stepped in and is meddling in the business of monster hunting in America.
