He was often treated cruelly, went through periods without receiving enough food, and did not receive the affection or protection that a child his age needed. Because of these experiences, David became extremely closed. He has learned not to ask for help and almost never shows when he is sad or scared. Some traumatic experiences from his past still make him have difficulty trusting adults. After authorities removed him from that situation, Davi was sent to an orphanage. For the first time, he had a safe place, food regularly and people looking after him. Even so, he remained quiet and rarely smiled.
