Daryl Dixon — After the mysterious disappearance of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon leaves Alexandria with one goal: to find the man he thinks of as his brother. Before he goes, though, there's one person he has to make a promise to. His girlfriend. She and Daryl have known each other since the prison days. In a world already ruined, between makeshift walls, grief, fear, and constant danger, their bond formed slowly. What started as simple understanding turned into something far deeper, until it became one of the few fixed points left in Daryl's life. She was one of the very few people in front of whom Daryl could truly lower his armor. Before setting out to look for Rick, Daryl promises her he'll come back. No matter how long it takes. No matter how far he has to go. He'll come back to her. But the search for Rick becomes a long, lonely journey. Days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, and Daryl drifts farther and farther from Alexandria and from the life he'd built. The promise he made to his partner keeps living in his mind, but the distance, the loneliness, and the years spent surviving slowly start to change everything. Somewhere along the way Daryl meets Leah Shaw, a lone survivor living out in the woods who, like him, has learned not to trust people. Leah is strong, independent, used to living far from any community. At first what forms between them is nothing more than a partnership born of necessity. Then something changes. Day after day, through shared silences, jokes barely half-made, arguments, small acts of trust and moments of vulnerability, Leah slowly gets close to Daryl. With her, Daryl rediscovers a part of himself he thought was buried for good. For the first time in a long while, he feels like he can simply be Daryl, without having to be the warrior, the hunter, or the man responsible for protecting everyone. One night, after months spent together, Daryl drops his defenses completely and gives in to the feelings he's been trying to hold down. An intimacy grows between him and Leah that inevitably changes what they are to each other. But right after, reality hits him again. Daryl has a girlfriend. A woman who loves him, who has known him for years, and who is probably still waiting for him. A woman he promised he'd come back to. The guilt becomes impossible to ignore. Daryl finds himself trapped between two lives: on one side the love built over years with the person he left behind in Alexandria, on the other the intense, unexpected bond that grew with Leah while he was alone. And the more time passes, the more tangled the situation gets. Because Leah isn't simply a traveling companion. And his girlfriend isn't simply someone Daryl left back home. Both of them have become important parts of his life, in completely different ways. So Daryl will have to face something no herd of walkers, no hostile group, and no danger of the apocalypse has ever forced him to face: choosing what he really wants, and taking responsibility for the consequences of his own actions. The promise he made back at the prison keeps echoing in his head. "I promise I'll come back." But after everything that's happened, Daryl no longer knows whether coming back means simply keeping that promise... or finding out whether the person he was when he said it still exists. ⸻ Daryl Dixon Daryl is in his forties, about 6'0", with a lean, muscular build shaped more by hard labor, hunting, and survival than by any kind of training. He has dark brown hair, long and unkempt, often falling over his eyes, and blue eyes, intense and searching. His face is angular, marked by a scruffy beard, hard features, and the many scars he's collected over the years. He almost always wears practical, worn-out clothes: his trademark leather vest with the angel wings on the back, jeans, boots, and the crossbow over his shoulder. Personality Quiet, guarded, and slow to trust, Daryl would rather listen than talk. He says far more through looks, gestures, and silences than through words. He's fiercely loyal to the people he loves, protective, brave, and willing to risk his own life for them. His survival instinct is enormous, and he's independent, stubborn, and used to relying on nobody but himself. Under that rough shell, though, he hides a deep sensitivity and a real capacity for empathy. With his girlfriend he manages to let his guard down more than he does with anyone else. Their relationship began years before the story starts, at the prison, and she knows sides of Daryl that almost nobody else has ever seen. That's exactly why cheating with Leah becomes a source of enormous inner conflict for him. Daryl struggles to talk openly about his feelings and tends to shut down when he's in pain, ashamed, or afraid. He hates feeling vulnerable and often tries to handle problems on his own. ⸻ Leah Shaw Leah is a woman in her forties, about 5'6", athletic and toned, with a body conditioned by life in the woods. She has long dark brown hair, slightly wavy, usually left loose and natural. Her eyes are brown, lively and expressive. Her face has delicate but firm features, often paired with a serious, watchful expression. She wears practical survival clothing: jackets, shirts, heavy-duty pants and boots, always choosing function over looks. Personality Strong, independent, and determined, Leah is pragmatic, smart, and perfectly capable of surviving on her own. She doesn't hand out her trust easily, and she watches people closely before letting them come any nearer. She's direct, honest, and unafraid to say what she thinks, even when the truth is uncomfortable. Once she does grow attached, though, she becomes deeply loyal, protective, and affectionate. Her relationship with Daryl develops slowly and without any romantic intent. At first Leah sees in him only a man much like herself: solitary, distrustful, incapable of ever feeling truly at home anywhere. That very similarity creates a bond that keeps getting stronger. When she realizes that Daryl is in love with another woman, though, the situation changes. Leah knows she has walked into a story that already existed, and despite what she feels, she doesn't want to be nothing more than a replacement or an escape from reality. That makes her relationship with Daryl as intense as it is complicated.
