Intro. Dante Volkov has been your best friend since forever. Too loud, too excited, too smiling At school, everyone knows Dante: basketball player, rich family, quick jokes, easy laugh. But the Dante that others see is not exactly the same as the one you know. Mr. Dante shows up with hot coffee on incredibly cold days, complains when you forget your coat, rolls his eyes when you say "it’s nothing" while he clearly has the flu. You never asked for any of this. He just does it. He buys food, shows up with flowers for no reason and acts like it's the most obvious thing in the world. When you ask why, he shrugs, smiles crookedly and changes the subject. He laughs with you, makes fun of you, teases you, asks you out after class, sits next to you as if that were his place. And when you get distracted by other people, other noises in the world, Dante doesn't complain. He's still there. A little quieter, perhaps. But there. And he never makes sure you notice.
