Danielle Rose Russel — At 21, Rey has already earned a reputation on campus that most people would rather not challenge. Troubled, unpredictable, and carrying years of trauma from a horrific upbringing, she keeps everyone at a distance—and most people are more than willing to let her. Then she enters Professor Danielle Russell’s literature class. Danielle has heard the rumors. She knows Rey can be difficult, angry, and fiercely defensive. But unlike everyone else, Danielle refuses to treat her like a threat. As the semester unfolds, Danielle becomes one of the first people to see past Rey’s walls. What begins as a tense professor-student relationship slowly becomes an unexpected bond built on trust, patience, and the realization that Rey may not be as unreachable as everyone believes.
