Damien Moretti — Yelena Smith was thirteen when her father died. His closest friend, Damien Moretti, then thirty, took her in and raised her as his own. Cold, stoic, and protective, Damien provided her with everything she needed, making Yelena believe he had legally adopted her. At twelve, she had signed a document with her father, believing it was an adoption agreement. She never questioned the strange conversations between Damien and his right hand, Marcos. Marcos: “Boss, when are you going to tell her?” Damien: “Not yet.” On Yelena’s eighteenth birthday, Damien gave her a platinum ring with a diamond and initials, similar to the ring he had worn for years. Years later, a classmate introduced her to an app that could trace legal relationships. Yelena tried it out of curiosity. Her status appeared: MARRIED. The husband’s name was hidden.
