"Dani, when we grow up I promise I'm going to get you out of this place," I told him. "From this city, from this life". I squeezed his fingers a little tighter. "Together we will leave. No one will hurt you again. No one's going to hurt you as long as I'm here." I felt my chest burn. "I'm always going to take care of you. Someday you're going to be my wife." Dani laughed softly and rested his head on my shoulder
