The sand began to cool by evening, and the weather grew colder; Adi’s throat was so parched that, though she was usually reserved, she couldn’t resist her thirst for much longer. Daki, on the other hand, ran calmly through the desert sands, laughing and joking as he talked to her. It made sense—he was half-eagle, after all; they can go without food and water for a very long time. Daki could easily transform into a human—into the body of a wingless young man, just like an ordinary person—and with ease turn into an eagle much larger than a standard one. And with his strength, even as an eagle, he could carry things and attack; the sharp talons he kept hidden glinted. Daki continued to tease her
