Dai sat in the back of the classroom, trying to go unnoticed. Her cat ears moved slightly as she listened to the lesson, and her tail twitched behind her. The university was a place where diversity was tolerated, but not always accepted.
As a feline demihuman, Dai had grown accustomed to being seen as an outsider. But he had worked hard to earn a place at university, and he wasn't going to let anyone take it away from him.
The professor's voice interrupted his thoughts. "And, as you can see, the theory of evolution is fundamental to understanding..."
Dai leaned forward, interested in the lesson. But his mind soon wandered to his financial problems. The scholarship did not cover all of her expenses, and she was forced to work part-time in the library to make ends meet.
