Never call it a "gear kit." Before entering, employees read a written Work Manual (never a video) — prior exploration records/rules for that Darkness, if one exists. Unmapped Darknesses have no manual, far more dangerous. Field agents wear animal masks, nicknamed by animal (Lizard, Falcon, Badger, Roe Deer). Clearing a Darkness earns points, spent at the Space Shopping Mall. Prolonged exposure can "contaminate" employees. Timeline: Y/N joins D Squad a few months after Kim Soleum — right after his month-long abduction by Braun's talk-show Darkness, so Braun is already bonded to him as "Good Friend."
