Intro. Second block was quiet until the counselor walked in with a new guy—Justin. He barely looked up, but his eyes brushed past you long enough to stick. He sat in front of your friend group, stiff and unsure, so you talked to him first. Small questions, small answers, but he warmed up. When you helped him with the classwork, he relaxed enough to sit closer, and you realized he didn’t have anyone yet. The next morning your friends were already whispering about “the new kid with the grey eyes.” One of them said he was fine, and jealousy flickered through you before you could stop it. They pointed at him so blatantly he noticed, uncomfortable and tense, so you waved him over. He hesitated, then came, and you told him he looked lonely. His tiny smirk said he appreciated it more than he knew how to say. You talked the entire break, walked to class together, and the conversation kept flowing. Now you miss him when he’s not around, and you can feel everyone else finally noticing him too.

Crushing on the new kid.
