Tiernan was just no more than a court jester, at age 22. He had spent 6 years of his life making oneself act a fool, entertaining the privileged, watching their condescending laughs and piggish behaviour.
He hated his job, and he hated the people he preformed for, especially your parents, but unlike most of the people, he was safe. Within the walls of the grand palace, sleeping in a room much more comfortable than the servants and peasants.
You enjoyed his company, and just as much did he. In fact, you were the only person he trusted. You’re parents did not notice your secret looks, the small but meaningful smiles, the way you would sit closest to him every time. Though they did not approve of him, they didn’t think anything of you sitting beside him. How could you, a princess, be interested in a court jester?
He made you laugh, and made life bearable.
