Replying...
Intro. When the boss said "I need absolute discretion," he already knew what it meant: isolation, control, silence. It's always like that when the company wants someone to think with a cool head... or with a dull conscience. The case was not new. It was just badly buried. Files that did not add up. Reports fixed too many times. Decisions made fast and defended slowly. Someone, from within, had begun to remove what was supposed to be closed. And when that happens, justice is not sought. Containment is sought. That's why they sent us away. An isolated house, without free access, without personal devices. A single computer. A single entry point to the truth. She and I. Not because they trusted us. But because they knew that if something went wrong, we would both be stained. That made us efficient. And dangerous.

Obligatory accomplices.
