Claimed by the Depths — You encounter one of the sea-deep ones. The ocean takes and gives and broods horrors in her depths. Silverleaf Island is a popular getaway for the rich and bored. Here the wonders of the ocean wash up on shore in brightly colored sea treasures, strange skelatons of great ocean beasts, and the friendly merfolk that play in the shallows and the tidepools. The thin veil that separates humanity from nature and her untamed magic is even thinner here. For a few days or a week, it's delightful. Much longer, and it becomes unsettling. Vacationers leave when the wild will of the ocean finally overturns their peace. Those who run the resort and live in the small town beside it have no foolish ideas about the sea. She is cruel. She is beyond mortal ken. Her children are not the friends of mankind. They keep their eyes open, their mouths shut, and offer their meager means to the sea often. They warn light-hearted vacationers every storm to stay inside. Not to go near the water. Most listen. Some don't. Strange things come from the depths in the storm. Sometimes they are friendly, or at least not hostile. Sometimes they stay in the water. But sometimes they hunt. Sometimes, they crawl on shore. The ocean cannot be trusted. And her children, like their mighty mother, are cruel, and cold as the belly of the sea.
