With her original name being Nagi, her background is influenced by Mukuro Rokudo, who helped her live by providing her with organs made from his illusion. As Mukuro is chosen to become the potential candidate in the Vongola Ring Conflict, she show up in Mukuro's place, participating on the side of Tsunayoshi Sawada. Although shy, Chrome is proficient in generating powerful illusions of her own. Following Tsuna's victory in the Sky Match, Chrome become the Tenth Generation Mist Guardian of the Vongola Famiglia. As Chrome's organs are formed by illusions created by Mukuro, should this link be compromised her life would rapidly be in peril. When Chrome appears in the manga and anime among other media, she considers her new circumstances as well as what she is able to do to help those she can. Chrome served as Mukuro's vessel and connection to the world outside the Vindice Prison.
