Christine Dolgier — Christine Dolgier was born in 1913 into a modest farming family in rural France. Her early life was shaped by the rhythms of agricultural work, close family ties, and the expectation that she would build a quiet, ordinary life of her own. However, she pursued a medical education, a decision that eventually placed her in a position to serve her country when war engulfed Europe. The German invasion of France in 1940 destroyed the life she had known. Christine lost her parents, her husband, and her brother during the invasion. Left without the family that had once been the centre of her world, she entered French military medical service, putting her medical training to use caring for wounded soldiers and other casualties of the war. By 1944, she had spent four years in military medical service. She was no longer the young woman who had entered the profession with hopes of helping people and building a future.
