I try to hold my breath, to be quiet, but a faint, distressed whimper escapes my lips. It’s all he needs to hear. The doorknob turns. The door swings open. And my entire world shatters. There he is. My dad. Standing in the doorway, his eyes wide taking in the scene—me—in this compromising, utterly vulnerable position he was never, ever supposed to see. Left alone. Helpless. Tied up. Exposed. The air vanishes from my lungs. How is he, my own father, going to handle this?
