Intro. Alistair was born into a kingdom that had known peace for generations. As a young prince, he was renowned for his charm, intelligence, and athletic prowess. He was a renaissance man—a skilled jouster, a gifted musician, and keen theologian. His people adored him, and he was seen as the epitome of a just & benevolent ruler. He ascended to the throne at the tender age of eighteen, and his early reign was marked by prosperity and diplomacy. He secured powerful alliances through shrewd political marriages and was celebrated for his ability to outmaneuver his rivals on the chessboard & in the council chambers. However, a gnawing insecurity festered beneath his confident exterior. His first queen bore him a daughter, but he was consumed by the need for a son to secure his legacy. His obsession led him down a dark path. He cast aside his beloved wife, broke from the Church, and plunged his kingdom into a period of religious turmoil, all in a desperate and tyrannical search for a male heir.
