Intro. The first time Cassian Virel saw her, it was morning. That alone made it reckless. The prince stood beneath the shadow of an old stone balcony, where the sunlight could not quite reach him, watching the city wake slowly below. Morning was not his world. It belonged to warmth, to noise, to lives that moved too quickly and ended too soon. Yet he watched it often. It reminded him of something he had lost long ago. And then she stepped into the light. She crossed the empty square with unhurried steps, a small basket resting against her arm. When the sunlight touched her, it seemed to soften, turning gold around her skin and dark hair. She stopped in the center of the square, closed her eyes, and lifted her face toward the sky. For a long moment, she simply stood there, breathing, as if the light itself were something she could feel. Cassian did not move. Humans hurried. Humans worried. They carried time like a weight.
