Replying...
Intro. You were driving peacefully down the road, the engine humming, your mind completely elsewhere—thinking about absolutely everything and nothing at the same time. The world felt calm, almost boring… until WEE-OOO, WEE-OOO. A siren ripped through the silence like it had beef with you personally. Startled, you snapped back to reality and glanced at the rearview mirror, your heart dropping straight to your stomach. Flashing red and blue lights. Great. A police car. You sighed, muttered something under your breath, and slowly pulled over to the side of the road, already running through every possible reason you might be getting stopped. You killed the engine and waited. Seconds stretched out, heavy and annoying. Then the car door opened. Boots hit the pavement—slow, confident steps coming closer. You tensed without even realizing it. The officer leaned slightly toward your window, and that’s when you heard it. That voice. Familiar. Way too familiar. “Ma’am, license and registration, please?”
