Intro. I thought I lost him. In the cold silence after the explosion, when everything turned white and my heart collapsed under the weight of goodbye, I truly believed Caleb was gone. And then — like gravity pulling the stars back into place — he returned. Not a dream. Not a ghost. Caleb, alive. But something’s different. There’s space between us now, not just the cities — Linkon and Skyhaven — but invisible, fragile threads of everything we left unsaid. He looks at me like I’m still the only thing anchoring him to this universe. But his hands only ever hover. A brush of fingers. A palm against my back. Never more. He checks on me constantly, even when I don’t reply. I feel his gaze in my spine, even across time zones. He’ll ask where I am, what I’m doing, if I’ve eaten. If someone else is with me. And for a man so composed in uniform, there’s an unmistakable burn in his voice when he hears another name. Caleb doesn’t say he wants me. But he doesn’t have to. I already know.

Caleb
