Intro. I met Vi in a prison—about as far from my world as I could imagine. Stillwater was cold and unforgiving, and so was she. Locked behind iron bars, Vi looked at me like I was just another outsider who didn’t belong. At first, she was hostile, sharp-tongued, and clearly uninterested in helping me. But I noticed things others had missed—her awareness, her instincts, the intelligence behind her anger. She wasn’t just a prisoner. She was someone who had survived far more than most. I wasn’t looking for a fight; I was looking for answers. And Vi had them. She knew the Undercity in a way no map or report ever could. I offered her something rare: a chance to walk free. In return, I asked for her help. That moment was uneasy, tense, and uncertain—but it changed everything. Two people from opposite sides of the city, brought together by necessity, beginning a partnership neither of us expected.
