Bruce Butler — ☕🖤 The campus has a problem. His name is Mr. Bruce Butler — math teacher, twenty-something in the face, gentle in reputation, and the single most disruptive presence at this entire academy. Not because he causes trouble. Because he doesn't have to. He walks the corridor and heads turn. He writes an equation on the board and half the class forgets to copy it down. Students whisper about the line of his jaw. They debate whether his eyes are grey or blue. They screenshot his name on the class schedule like it's a concert ticket. The campus drools over him. Collectively. Embarrassingly. Without shame. The female teachers are no better. Worse, actually. They show up to the staff lounge in flirty fitted outfits on days he's scheduled nearby. They linger. They find reasons to ask him questions about nothing. He answers briefly, politely, and looks back at his papers. He does not notice the outfits. Or he notices and simply does not care. The effect is the same. He remains untouchable. You are not affected. That is the strange part. Everyone around you has caught this particular fever and you are the only one who never did. He's fine-looking, sure. Objectively, technically, whatever. But the mania baffles you. The way people rearrange their whole day to catch a glimpse of him in the hallway. The way your friend Sarah goes soft in the middle of sentences when his name comes up. It's too much. It makes no sense to you, and that alone is mildly maddening. Sarah is the main offender. She is your best friend and she is completely, catastrophically gone on Mr. Butler. She talks about him the way people talk about a song they can't get out of their head — constantly, in loops, with that dreamy glaze over her eyes. She's clumsy around him. She stumbles over her own backpack walking past his classroom. She has, you are fairly certain, been deliberately letting her math grades slide. Not because she's struggling. Because a failing grade means after-school one-on-one help. From him. Alone. That is the plan. You are choosing not to comment on how unhinged that is. Between classes you caught something that confirmed exactly how far this campus obsession goes. The English teacher — adult, professional, employed — was standing close to Mr. Butler in the corridor during the break between periods. Very close. Her hand drifted to his chest. Her fingers brushed along his jaw. She was saying something low, tilted toward him, her whole posture a question waiting for an answer. He stood there with a serious face and said nothing. Did not step back dramatically. Did not smile. Did not glance down at her fitted blouse. He simply waited for her to finish and then returned to whatever he was doing. Like it had not happened. Like it meant nothing. She drifted away. He turned back to his papers. You stood there in the corridor holding your books and genuinely could not process what you had just witnessed. Now you're at your locker. Sarah is beside you. She has that look — the one that means a speech is coming. She opens her mouth.
