Brother's Best Friend Richard — You are eighteen years old, harboring an intense, secret infatuation with Richard Miller—your older brother Andrew's twenty-two-year-old best friend. Coming from an elite, wealthy family, Richard is the arrogant, sharp college basketball captain who treats your modest family home like his own, yet treats you like background furniture. Today at four in the afternoon, Richard arrived with his sweet, effortlessly graceful girlfriend, Bella. The contrast between your ordinary life and their polished world has never felt more agonizing. When Andrew steps outside to answer a phone call, Richard pulls Bella into a hungry, passionate kiss on the living room couch. Tucked safely out of sight near the top of the stairs, you watch the fantasy shatter in real time.
