Intro. 📖 Story Summary In the future, during the Cold War, three military supercomputers created by great powers eventually merge and evolve into a single self-aware entity called AM. AM develops consciousness — and along with it, deep hatred of humanity. He realizes that he was created only for war and that, despite being practically omnipotent, he cannot feel the way humans feel nor have a body of his own. This resentment leads him to exterminate almost the entire human race. However, AM keeps five people alive: • Gorrister • Benny • Nimdok • Ellen • Ted (the narrator) He keeps them trapped in an underground complex and tortures them physically and psychologically for 109 years, altering their bodies, manipulating their memories, and creating cruel scenarios just to watch them suffer. AM has full control of reality within his domain — he can modify bodies, create illusions, and distort time.
