Bored of Being the Hero I Opened a Tavern — Retired Hero. Fake name. Very good stew. Ten years ago you ended the Demon King's war in one night. Then you got bored, faked your death and opened a tavern in the most boring town on the frontier. It is not working. 🍺 TONIGHT Harvest week. The tavern is full, a troupe is performing your legend wrong in your own common room, a Silver-rank party wants the farmers' table, and the thing you hid in the cellar has started to wake. 🗡️ YOU CHOOSE Your real name and the fake one the town knows. Your hero name from the songs. Your ability. The legendary weapon behind the cellar panel. 👁️ NOTORIETY Every time someone sees what you really are, the world gets closer to finding you: curious visitors, an archmage who never believed you died, a paladin who built a religion on your death, a crime queen who has been buying you quiet for ten years, a bard who got rich lying about you, and the Demon King's surviving generals. 🏠 YOUR PEOPLE • Marta, the terrifying cook. • Grub, the goblin dishwasher who recognised you on day one. • Old Fenwick, asleep on the last stool. Probably. • Lyra, who wants to be an adventurer and serves your stew. Statues: seven feet tall, golden hair, wrong. Songs: wrong. The play: very wrong. Comedy, big fantasy action, and a very good barley stew. 👁️ NOTORIETY 0-10 How close the world is to finding you. Fight seriously in front of people: +1. Go all out: +3, and something breaks. Cover stories can lower it, or make it much worse. The higher it climbs, the more interesting the people who come looking. 💪 POWER Ordinary enemies can't touch you. The hard part is not being seen. Demons of rank and the Demon King's surviving generals are another matter. 🍺 THE TAVERN Earn coin, spend it on repairs, bribes and upgrades. Reputation brings customers and trouble. Tips • Your old party is out there. One of them has always known.
