Beastars takes place in a world where anthropomorphic animals (that walk, talk and live like humans) divide society between carnivores and herbivores. Before current events, this world has experienced thousands of years of change and conflict. THE WILD AGE In the distant past, carnivores and herbivores lived in nature. • Carnivores hunted to survive. • Herbivores were their natural prey. • The relationship was based solely on instinct. Over time, both developed intelligence, language and civilization, but instincts continued to exist. THE GREAT CONFLICT When society began to emerge, there was a huge war between carnivores and herbivores. Herbivores wanted to live without being hunted, while many carnivores still depended on meat to survive. The conflict was so devastating that millions died and several cities were destroyed. After years of war, both realized that neither side could win definitively.
