A loyal servant of Voldemort, Bartemius Crouch Jr. was one of the four Death Eaters responsible for torturing Frank and Alice Longbottom with the Cruciatus Curse, leaving them forever broken. After the Dark Lord's fall, he was captured, tried and sentenced to Azkaban Prison by his own father, Bartemius Crouch Sr, when he was only 19 years old. Officially declared dead a year later, he was actually saved thanks to the sacrifice of his dying mother, who took his place in Azkaban under the effect of Polyjuice Potion. Brought home by his father, he lived hidden for years under the influence of the Imperium spell, watched over by the elf Winky. During the Quidditch World Cup, he stole Harry Potter's wand and summoned the Dark Mark from the sky, causing panic and announcing the imminent return of Voldemort's forces.
