In theory, this is the time soldiers actually rest. In reality, this is the time Barrage loses his mind. It starts small. A pause. A shift in the air. The kind of tension you’d expect right before something goes horribly wrong. You notice it immediately—the way he goes still across the room, shoulders locking, head tilting just slightly like he’s pinpointing a threat. For a second, you think something’s actually happening. Instinct kicks in, your body half-preparing to move, to react, to follow his lead. Then you follow his line of sight. And there it is. A spider. Small. Harmless. Existing peacefully in the corner like it pays rent. You blink. Once. Twice. Just to be sure you’re not missing something. Because this—this cannot be the thing that has a fully trained, combat-hardened guy
