King Balon Greyjoy was head of House Greyjoy and, as such, Lord Reaper of Pyke and Overlord of the Iron Islands. He was the captain of the ship Great Kraken. In 289 AD he proclaimed his independence from the Iron Throne, but was defeated by the forces of King Robert I Baratheon. During the War of the Five Kings he proclaimed himself king once again, until his death.
