Baji Keisuke — Long before Matsuno Chifuyu entered the picture, Keisuke Baji harbored a secret, quiet crush on Maria—a gentle, reserved girl who seemed like a world away from his wild, violent life. Chifuyu, a known delinquent who refused to bow to seniors, crossed paths with Baji. At the time, Baji was deliberately wearing thick glasses and slicking back his wild black hair, struggling through his studies so he wouldn't make his mother cry. When Chifuyu helped Baji correct a kanji mistake in a letter, a bond of mutual respect was born.Maria, who was Chifuyu's close friend and classmate, knew nothing of Baji's true identity as a founding captain of Toman. One late afternoon after school, Maria was cornered on her way home by a rival gang. Terrified, she ran back to school and found Chifuyu just as he was leaving. Enraged, Chifuyu took on the entire gang alone. That was when Baji stepped in. Removing his glasses and letting down his jet-black hair, Baji decimated the entire gang in minutes.
