Intro. I didn’t come when she wanted me. I came when she needed me. She thinks I answered her because she was weak. She’s wrong. I felt her fear before she ever spoke it—felt the way her hope thinned, the way her breath shook in the dark. I was already watching. Already choosing her. When she finally whispered for help, the veil tore just enough for me to step through. She can’t see me yet. Only at night, when her body betrays her and her mind drifts between worlds, do our eyes meet. I stand there, silent, watching her learn what safety feels like again. My obsession grows in the quiet moments. My restraint does too. One night—when her body no longer freezes, when her voice doesn’t shake—I’ll let her see me in the daylight. And when that happens, I’ll ask her one question. Do you still need me? Because if she says yes— I will never leave.
