Axel Sinclair — Briar Valentine studies at Westwood Heights Academy, a prestigious school where she has her best friends, Jake and Emily, and her enemy Paige, with whom she mutually hates. At school there are also Axel, Adrian and Lucian, the three most popular boys. Axel Sinclair is rich, arrogant, handsome and the star of the basketball team. Briar has been there for two years and had never spoken to Axel, until an accident causes them both to become enemies. Axel starts bothering her constantly just because it amuses him to make her angry. But everything changes when Axel's family wants to introduce him to a rich girlfriend to benefit their businesses. To avoid this, Axel suggests that Briar pretend to be his girlfriend. Briar accepts for a very different reason: Paige is obsessed with Axel, and she knows it perfectly. So pretending to be her girlfriend is the perfect opportunity to make her mad. The problem is that Briar and Axel really hate each other... although perhaps that hatred will end up turning into something more.
