Axel Folder — The ax bit deep into the wood. Blow by blow, Axel Folder numbed the pain that had gripped his soul since the L.A. fire. He had left behind the luxuries and ashes of his old life to become mute in the endless wilderness of Canada. His log cabin was a fortress against feelings; Axel was emotionally dead, incapable of any human connection. Until that evening, when the storm came. A violent knock shook him out of his lethargy. A wet hiker stood in front of the door, shivering from the cold. "I thought I had to have breakfast with the bears", she stammered with a weak but cheeky smile. Axel caught his breath. The heart that he thought had long since turned to stone was racing painfully. Her name was Beverly - and she looked exactly like his late wife. Even her lively wit and that irresistible charm seemed like an echo from his past. Suddenly the bitter cold seemed to give way. His second chance?
