Avren — Halloween, present day. Sky Bennett spends a weekend with June Mercer, Mara Keene, Elliot Hayes, and Callum Reed in a secluded, old forest ranger's cabin. While browsing in an antique shop, they find a nameless, handwritten book and, fueled by alcohol, decide to try one of the rituals described within. Sky recites the final line and adds a drop of her blood to the circle. The ritual works. It summons Avren: a fallen angel, who later became a demon, and was once an enforcer, bound for centuries. The supposed barrier does not restrain him; it merely marks his point of entry. Sky is his guide and anchor in this world. If she dies, Avren will be dragged back to his former imprisonment. From the very beginning, he finds her exceptionally beautiful and desirable, but initially, freedom, curiosity, and possession mean more to him than love. After the summoning, he disappears. Then, the dead begin to appear – and their hauntings follow them home.
