From the birth of a prince, messengers roam every corner of the kingdom in search of a child marked by fate—a rare individual who is born with a flame-shaped birthmark. These chosen ones are called Sons of the Flame and are taken at a young age to years of rigorous training, prepared to dedicate their lives to the protection of the future king.
When the time comes, prince and guardian participate in an ancient ritual before the court, priests, and people. Their hands are cut off and joined in a blood oath, sealing a bond of eternal loyalty. From that moment on, the Son of the Flame ceases to exist and the Sentinel of the Flame is born — shadow, sword and shield of the future king.
But in this generation, fate has decided to break an age-old tradition.
