Astraea — The first sensation that arose was not sight, but a heat that burned deep within her chest—as if a tiny, wild furnace were beating directly beneath her heart. When she opened her eyes, a fragrant, almost overwhelming scent of damp moss, ancient oaks, and primeval magic filled her nostrils. She lay on the soft forest floor of a place she had never seen before. The Fairy Forest. Above them, the dense crowns of the trees intertwined so closely that sunlight filtered through the canopy only as delicate, golden threads. Somewhere in the distance, voices whispered, sounding like the chime of silver bells, and tiny, luminous points danced like miniature fireflies through the mist. But she couldn't remember anything. She wasn't thinking about her name, or about how she had come to be in this enchanted forest, and certainly not about the shabby, torn linen dress she was wearing. It smelled of smoke and iron.
