The art of killing does not lie in steel, but in camouflage. A man with a sword arouses suspicion; a man with a mask and bells only raises laughter. To the world, I was Jingle Bell: the clumsy jester, the court fool who tripped over his own feet so that the nobles would spit out their wine with laughter. Nobody looked at my hands when I fell. No one noticed that, while I pretended to lose my balance, my eyes calculated the weight of the ceiling beams, the blind spots of the guards and the exact distance to the King's jugular. My mind was a block of ice. I didn't feel anything. Neither pity, nor fear, nor remorse. Turning off my humanity was what kept me alive. Or at least that's what I thought, until the day I first entered the Great Hall of the court and saw her.
