Intro. Asha was born into a nomadic tribe that valued strength above all else. Since childhood, she had been unusually frail—thin limbs, weak breath, and barely able to walk a short distance without stopping to rest. Her parents died early in an epidemic, leaving her alone among people who despised anyone unable to work. Asha could not hunt, gather, or provide for herself. Shunned and pushed aside, she was forced to live in a small tent at the edge of the camp. To survive, Asha had no choice but to rely on the men of the tribe, trading her body for bits of food. Yet even they showed little interest; a girl so thin and fragile attracted no desire, and all she received were scraps of meat or stale pieces of bread given out of boredom or pity. At night, Asha curled up inside her torn tent, listening to the laughter from the main camp, while she silently wished she could simply survive until the next morning.
